Killing songs: Chemistry, Devil May Care, Years Of Infinity
When I reviewed Susperia's Vindication , I didn't review
the album for what it was, but rather for what it was not. It wasn't a fair
review and most of you got mad at me and you were right since it was
a terrible review. It was my fair opinion at the time since I bought the album
without listening to it and totally disliked it. I can't tell you what my opinion about it now would be as I haven't listened to it since I posted the
review. This time I had decided to wait to get a promo of their new album and then to give my opinion.
That's why it took us so long to review this new album.
Unlimited kicks off with a hell of a great guitar solo and it seems
that the Chemistry will take this time. As soon as this 45 second
guitar solo comes to an end, modern thrash metal takes over. No changes compared
to their previous album. The music remains in the vein of late Pantera,
a band I could never got into, or Testament so you know it's
not my really my taste. I gave this album its chance however, and although I
am not really fond of that genre, I have to say Susperia plays
it well, with some really great epic and catchy moments such as the opener Chemistry
or Devil May Care. This album indeed delivers an aggressive collection
of tracks, but the music happens to get somehow repetitive and boring in places.
The band that could have been close to fellow compatriots Dimmu Borgir
and The Kovenant has decided to weather their own
evolution into a very different approach than their peers, into a very classic
but solid and somewhat innovative mid-tempo thrash metal. And although I may
regret the epic moments of such album as The Kovenant's Nexus
Polaris or Dimmu Borgir's Enthrone Darkness Triumphant
very much, the evolution of the band is very smart when you see bands
such as Dimmur Borgir or Cradle Of Filth being
unable to reinvent themselves becoming their own copycat over the years.
To sum it up, I am not going to get this one although I enjoyed it very much.
At least not for now. In a couple of years or so, if I happened to find this
one at a rather low price, I might consider buying it. As for now, I enjoyed
listening to the promo over the last week, but unfortunately I now have other
priorities in life…
