Killing songs: The full record & especially When A Dead Man Walks
This Italian band is (will always be?) compared to The Gatthering.
As Lacuna Coil arrived after The Gathering, as Lacuna Coil plays an
atmospheric metal like The Gathering and as Lacuna Coil's singer is
a woman who sing like Anneke (The Gathering's singer) it is almost impossible
to not compare the two bands. I understand comparisons, I denied any
copy cat!
If only If-Then-Else of The Gathering was as good as this Unleashed
Memories. Lacuna Coil's new record is excellent. This band is delivering
better album one after the other. This time they remind me more Paradise
Lost and their atmospheric metal is much heavier. I am a big fan of
Draconian Times and I admit this Unleashed Memories has
some convergence sounds (When A Dead Man Walks, fifth song).
But Lacuna Coil has added other elements, which make them sound still
fresh and distinctive.
The orchestral parts are excellent, song writing is perfectly equilibrated
and the voice of Cristina Scabbia is really magical. And when her vocal
"fights" the male vocals of Andrea Ferro, Lacuna Coil becomes again
inimitable. Song like Purify or To Live Is To Hide are
atmospheric diamond songs.
I like to explode my head and neck with Primal Fear or Annihilator,
but sometimes I also need to rest in peace, to "calm down" and this
Unleashed Memories does the job perfectly. And please don't say
this band sound like The Gathering. Lacuna Coil is Lacuna Coil and their
last work is a killer. A must for atmospheric metal fans out there.
Congratulations again.
