Killing songs: Solar Child, Kings Of Plush, Dead Season
Although not really mediated, the first album of these five Germans, soberly
called Still Dream In Violent Areas was already quite marvelous with
its easy mixing of Gothic Metal, New-Wave spiced up with a tad of Electro. What
to say about this Solar Child beside the fact that this is an excellent CD following
where the first album left but maybe with more pronounced arrangements and melodies.
The extremely particular and charismatic voice of the singer Christian Faust
is probably the biggest strong point of the band. Production was taken care
of by Xy (Samael) and the mix by Wlademar Sorychta (Grip Inc.
guitar player who doesn't hesitate in putting some riffs then and there) is
really excellent et gives a very Samael-like overall ambiance.
A song like Solar Child demonstrates the quality of the arrangements
with, hold on to something, some moments with accordion ! But a song like Dead
Season will make you dive into an almost hypnotizing abyss of darkness.
The mix of the mentioned styles is really mastered from one side to another
by the band which transforms them into an unique musical avatar, sumptuous and
unavoidable. A really original CD for not only Samael fans, but also
fans of The Cure...
