Killing songs: Rebirth, Faded Years, The Darkness Inside
Agathodaimon walks the same path as many black metal bands.
The guys indeed play some kind of eerie symphonic black metal that has a lot
in common with bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Cradle Of
Filth, Old Man’s Child or Graveworm.
Recorded and mixed by Kristian “Kohle” Kohlmannslehner at Kohlekeller
Studio in Darmstadt, Serpent’s Embrace sounds the same as the
latest albums of all the bands I mentioned but they also sound somewhat different. The quality of the music is merely the same
though, depending on how much you like mainstream black metal.
It’s rather difficult to be original these days, especially if you play
that kind of mainstream black metal, and Agathodaimon aren’t that original. Their music indeed features everything that is common
among the genre. Lots of breaks, killer guitar riffs, clean vocals, female vocals,
harsh vocals, etc. Besides, except for track 5, Solitude, a song that
consists only of piano and female vocals and that works as an interlude and
is by the way maybe a bit too long, there isn’t really any weak songs on
this album.
The result is a really solid album that is worth you pennies and with these
kind of results, I wonder how other albums can be so disgusting. Indeed it doesn’t
seem that much difficult to come up with a strong album, but if every band on
the scene would come with great albums, we the reviewer would have to lower
the quotation of such great albums, so I bet the band isn’t sorry that
other bands suck so much.
You will also find a multimedia bonus (for PC systems only) on the CD version
of the album. There's is a making of of Serpent’s Embrace (for
both album and videoclip), as well as the usual photo galleries, screensavers
and other wallpapers.
