Killing songs: Town Of Skulls, Opposite Force
This is their debut album and AFM Records has signed here
a very interesting and promising band. We are talking of
typical German heavy metal here. As usual, Accept &
Helloween (first years) are Rawhead Rexx influence. From
speedy songs (Town Of Skulls) to more conventional
heavy stuff (Opposing Force, Blood On My Hands),
Rawhead Rexx doesn't forget Iron Maiden on Mr. Hyde
or on Sons Of Mayhem.
This is a promising debut album, but on the other hand
their are so many bands out there delivering such metal
since more than 20 years that Rawhead Rexx will have lots
of difficulties to emerge out of this metal scene. The band
is currently touring with Annihilator and Nevermore (opening
act) and even though they play "an old fashioned heavy
metal" music, I am sure lots of metal heads will be
surprised by this band.
I am a bit astonished by the production here. This album
has been produced by Charly Bauerfeind (Helloween, Blind
Guardian, Saxon,....) and I have heard much better production
coming from this guy. Budget ? I can't really tell you,
but Charly doesn't create this type of sound usually. Not
a bad production, but a bit "oldish" actually.
That's maybe Rawhead Rexx who wanted to sound like this.
Last but not least, some personal Rawhead Rexx's words
: "Hey folds, this fucking record is guaranteed
without any fucking keyboards!". Couldn't say it
any better. If you are like old stuff "à la"
Accept, this one is for you.
