Killing songs: Higher than the sky, Shelter Me, One Voice, Killer Or The Cure, Searching for the Truth.
The third album (or maybe fourth...) from this excellent band that is Balance Of Power finally
got into my player for the sole pleasure of my ears. I'm slowly but surely adding
this band to my favorite of the style, highly melodic with great vocals (to
say the least) and very catchy choruses and a few progressive elements then
and there.
This Perfect Balance album starts with a killer track called Higher
Than The Sun, literally a slap in the face with many progressive elements (maybe
a tad too many actually). The vocals on this album are really brilliant and
the band don't stop to impress me since this is their 3rd release and that the
previous ones were also great albums. This one is more mature in the song-writing,
also maybe much more progressive and the bands shifts from Melodic Hard Rock
to Power Prog. The vocals are not far from Mr. LaBrie and the songs themselves
are very very catchy. The arrangements are beautiful, thanks to the excellent
keyboard performance on that album. Some songs really remind me Dream Theater,
like the beautiful ballad Shelter Me on which the singer takes pleasure
into imitating James LaBrie to the perfection from time to time (on high notes).
The guitar solos are very technical yet very melodic and the overall sound and
production is very good.
The best album for the band so far, no doubt about that, but I'm sure they
can (and will) do even better. If you're into Melodic stuff and love Prog Metal
then be sure not to miss this release. Highly recommended !
