Killing songs: Beneath A Dying Sune, Into The Depths Of No Return, Forged In Blood, Carnal Devourment
I had never heard of Fleshcrawl before because I am not really fond of death metal anymore. Of course I keep on listening to the bands that I grew
up with, but if I happen to hear a track from a band that I don't know, I don't
mind giving the album a chance. That's exactly what happened with Fleshcrawl.
I didn't know what to expect and I sort of expected them to be another death
metal orgy à la Cannibal Corpse. Well, I was damn wrong....
Fleshcrawl has indeed very few things in common with Cannibal
Corpse, except maybe for the artwork, but rather much more in common with
Grave. Those of you who read my review of Back From
The Grave know how much I like this stuff. The band definitely knows how
to handle loud and heavy grooving classic old school death metal in the pure
Swedish tradition. In fact they sound exactly the same as Grave,
and I wonder if they didn't rip them off by the way, but to tell you the
truth, I really don't care since this is goooooooood stuff. The guttural vocals
are definitely close to those of Grave's mainman Ola Lindgren. I think if someone
had played this stuff for me, I would have believed it to be Grave's
new album. Made Of Flesh combines heaviness, brutality and groove.
If you like Grave, you'll like Fleshcrawl as
much as I did. It has a lot of similarities with Grave, but
I see it like Entombed and Dismember. Father
to son. Anyway, I definitely have to get this one and it will probably be one
of the few death metal releases that I will buy this year.
