What a surprise! A live album which is one of the biggest AOR band… recorded
live during their best periode (from 1982 to 1986). When I think about the last
20 years, the first thing that comes to mind is the beginning of MTV and its
lots of brand new artists. My ears and eyes were wide opened when I saw for
the first time the video clip 'Working For The Weekend' of Loverboy.
My first questions were: Where did they come from? Is it the first album? After
lots of research, the answers were: this is a Canadian band formed by Mike Reno
(vocals), Paul Dean (guitar), Scott Smith (bass, who's died in 2000), Matt Frenette
(drums) and Doug Johnson (keyboards) and this is theyre second album 'Get
Lucky'! What? How can I miss them? I run to my favourite shop to stick it
both. I haven't to tell you that Loverboy is one of my best rock'n'roll
band… The right band at the right time. The beginning of musical channels,
rock radios, big albums a lot of giant open air concerts.
Many years later with lots of records in my ears and concerts in my eyes, I
have to recognize that they were two steps behind. It's incredible to feel the
keyboards sound takin' place so perfectly in the musical harmony. This sound
is the opposite of the others sound keyboards (I think about the 70's sound,
for exemple John Lord of Deep Purple, Emerson Lake And Palmer).
Imaginative, modern and giving the emphasis to the guitar and lyrics. The clear
production and the good looking musicians, didn't forget the punch of the melody
and rock'n'roll attitude. The growing up success permitted to play to support
major bands such as Journey, Kansas, Sammy Hagar and others.
After, the metal fans were in search of more extreme music and it was the beginning
of the end of the AOR band. Don't worry, some bands are always present, but
things are never been the same.
I can compare this records to a best of. You have in your hands a resume of
their career with their best singles that give them the opportunity to be one
of the must successful bands of their time. From 'Working For The Weekend'
to 'Lovin' Every Minute Of It' through 'This Could Be The Night'.
Try it and you will ear what you were missing!!!
