Fairly new to the heavy metal circuit, Alpha Tiger is a group of young talent from Freiberg in Saxony. Having received a very positive reaction from their debut album Man or Machine from 2011, the band is now on their third album entitled iDentity. Alpha Tiger sounds like a late 80s, early 90s heavy metal band with a mix of power metal that equal an album with a fun attitude, that is overall very entertaining to explore. After a brief introductory track, the album erupts with Lady Liberty. It’s a rush of heavy, fun guitar riffing with that great 80s feel, as the album does quite well throughout. Vocals are solid and absolutely catchy for the most part, lacking a bit on some tracks. The guitar work also follows suit with catchiness, as one of my absolute favorite tracks, Long Way of Redemption contained a main guitar lick that was absolutely contagious and left one of the most memorable impressions on iDentity. Overall the album is one that can easily set up a good feeling mood. We Won’t Take it Anymore is yet another track that contains some truly catchy drum beats and guitar riffing. The chorus is powerfully with layered over voices that will get many to feel the need to chant along. Solos on the album, like at the start of the track Revolution in Progress, are not as blistering fast as power metal, but are solid, well written, and intricate enough to cater well to any fan of heavy metal. Alpha Tiger are remaining solid on their third album with iDentity. Contagious at times, and fun to spin more than once to revisit many tracks, they have cut off a great slice of heavy metal to feast upon for the start of 2015.
