Killing songs: Heaven Or Hell & Solid
Finally, here comes the new songs of Mr. Kai Hansen. This EP is the
Japanese printed version which included three songs (I guess the European
pressing is the same ... but I am not sure on that).
After spending one full hour on the cover-art (beautiful considering
this is not a Dereck Riggs drawing), I finally come back mentally from
the stars (see the cover !) and put this EP inside my player.
Heaven Or Hell starts and after 20 seconds you realize (again
!) that Gamma Ray is definitively a trademark. "Speedy"
guitars, f**cking great melodies, intelligent breaks and wonderful chorus
... here we go again ;-).
Where Heaven Or Hell sounds like the continuation of Powerplant
(previous Gamma Ray's record), second song, Solid, is much more
heavy compare to Powerplant and has a Judas Priest's touch,
which is somehow an innovation for Gamma Ray. Third song,
Angel Of Death (Thin Lizzy cover), is well performed ....
but doesn't totally suite to Gamma Ray.
Next week we will talk about the full record of course, entitled No
World Order!, which is already one of the big highlight of the reopening
season. As of today and considering the 10th September is still very
far, I highly recommend you to jump on this small jewel !!! A must for
all Gamma Ray's fans out there, a must for all others who still
don't know this band.
To be continued next week ...
