Killing songs: I don’t really have a specific one… but No Remorse of course
Untitled Document
Cannibal Corpse is back… Try to guess what's the difference between
this one and their previous ones ?
The music ? No since they've been playing the same stuff from the beginning…
The line-up ? Not really since it hasn't changed over the last 3 recordings…
The cover ? Not again since they've been cooperating with Vincent Locke since
their very first album… and again the guy has made two different covers : a
censored version and a uncensored version (this time I wasn't able to put a
hand on both of them). This cover is the uncensored version made for the whole
world, except for Germany, since the band is having problems with german authorities
that deny them the first three albums.
So what's the difference this time ? Well, there's no real difference. Cannibal
Corpse remains Cannibal Corpse, no matter the time, no matter the
fashion, no matter everything. They're still playing good old death metal filled
with gore and guttural vocals. And that's why you and I like them so much. I
have to say however that I don't listen a lot to death metal anymore, but the
band is one of the exception. Why ? Because they've got their trademark and
you can rest assured that you will find what you are looking for.
Of course some people out there might say that every song on this new album
could be included in their previous work, that you would not hear any difference.
Of course they might be right, but the band has this true ability to bring something
fresh with every new record. I am not a musician, so I would probably not be
able to talk about technicality or whatever, but I am able to say when it is
good stuff. And this is good stuff. Fast tracks, slow tracks. Whatever… they
rule !!!
I know some people who might complain about the departure of Chris Barnes (not
again please), but I will certainly not argue about the differences between
Chris Barnes et Georges Fischer, since Cannibal Corpse has released eight
studio albums. Four with each singer. Since his departure from Cannibal Corpse,
Chris Barnes has also released four records with Six Feet Under. Georges
"Corpsegrinder" Fischer is the man, that's obvious, otherwise he would not be
in the band. And anyway, if you complain, buy Six Feet Under.
And before I forget, I have to tell you about the cover on the limited edition.
They did a Metallica cover. I know what you might be saying, not another
band that covers Metallica ! But they did a cover of No Remorse
from Kill'Em All, and believe me that's maybe the best Metallica cover
I have heard so far. They couldn't do a cover from The Black Album, or Load
and Reload (that might have been funny though), and I think they
did the right one. Anyway, fans of the old Metallica like me will indisputably
love it.
