Killing songs: The crystal clear and powerful production of this live DVD.
This DVD is not that new, actually I own it for months, but I thought that it would be nice to review it, who knows... I think it could make an excellent Xmas gift for example, since the holidays seasons is approaching fast. This DVD contains 150 minutes of material, which is more than generous since it almost doesn't cost more than a CD (well a few bucks more maybe) and contains many many interesting features. Beside the excellent live performance of Tarja and the boys, you'll be able to find Interviews with Tarja & Tuomas, some off-stage footage, 2 music videos and 2 live videos, a photo gallery of the band and finally the discography. It's always a pleasure to see and listen to Tarja, she's so cute for one thing :), plus she sings really really great, but these both facts I'm sure you already know. The live starts on The Kingslayer to end on the perfect song : Wishmaster ! As for Tarja, I was a little bit disappointed by the costume she was wearing, it didn't brought up her usual charm, well to my taste of course, especially comparde to Wacken this year or the small live they gave in Geneva in winter 99... Anyway, that's of course not what matters. Let's talk about the sound shall we ? NOW that's what I call a perfect live sound, and for those like me that have home theaters with Dolby Digital 5.1, you'll be very happy to know that the full live is in 5.1 and it rocks (so much that I'm sure that my neighbors are gonna kill me if I cross them on the elevator :)). Really the sound is gigantic and the experience is full, it's almost as you were present on the show, only better because you're nicely installed in your couch with a beer in your hand plus the people at Finnvox probably improved the sound of the original live show too... My only complaint was in the fact that some moments are subtitled and some aren't which makes it difficult to understand some off-stage moments and all...there's the band having some kind of discussion and you get 1 sentence out of 5 that get's translated... it would have been nicer to subtitle everything, or simpler to subtitle nothing, but the way it's been done doesn't make any sense actually. Anyway, it's only during a few moments of the DVD, and what the DVD maniacs call Extra Features. For all fans of Nightwish, this is a must have DVD live, without any doubts about it. And like I said, I think that it makes a very nice Christmas present. I'm looking forward to listen to their next studio album, and in the meantime, I think I'm gonna watch From Wishes To Eternity over and over again :).
