Killing songs: Hanging On The Cross, The Threshold, Evolution
Pissing Razors....OUCH! That's gotta hurt.
It's hard to believe but "Evolution" is the band's sixth release,
third for Spitfire Records.
Pissing Razors hail from El Paso, Texas; the stomping grounds of their
metal brethren Pantera.
With that said they sound like a mix between Pantera and Machine
Head. The music can best be described as energetic, harsh, rambunctious,
intense, paranoid, boisterous, rousing, rowdy, reckless, manic, aggressive,
tense/anxious, detached, rebellious, and hostile. The vocals are angry and angst
ridden with clean ones mixed in at times, alot like the style used by Pantera's
Phil Anslemo. The guitar riffs are metallic and meaty, sounding detuned a notch
or two. The drumming is pounding and tribal like. The production and mix of
"Evolution" is good, as is the recording of the album. Overall
the songs are very rhythm oriented, focusing on brutal power and not concentrating
on guitar solos.
This album might take a while to grow on some. Personally for me, I haven't
even listened to much Pantera lately. It's just one of those styles of
music that you need to be in the mood to listen to. It's not bad, it's just
that for me I would prefer to listen to other styles before this one. I'm not
too crazy about detuned sounding guitars. Still worth checking out!
