Killing songs: Stalingrad
Dark Lunacy are a band from Parma that plays quite a strange genre.
The result of different conceptions, all of them oriented towards gothic/romantic
atmosphere added to a very aggressive voice (almost death vocal), is
actually good.
The violin leads the music just in front of the guitars and like their
covert art, Dark Lunacy combines symphonic elements and gothic elements
always constructed with tight rhythms and sudden melodic riffings to
give a well-defined identity to each song and being at the same time
a perfect balance between anger and poetry.
One of the main characteristic of Dark Lunacy is to use the musical
support of a string-quartet formed by excellent musicians. I still think
the vocals could have been more clear (in Peavy's style from Rage),
but of course this is just my taste.
A good record. 11 tracks that definitely represents what Dark Lunacy
are all about : a desperate cry that dies in the arms of hope. If you
like romantic atmosphere with death vocals, this one is for you. I am
waiting for the next one as soon as possible.
