Killing songs: Thunderhead & Bleed Me
The new Overkill album is as good as their previous album (we are talking about Necroshine here). Nothing has changed and we are still trapped in this speed / thrash metal roots. When I listen to Necroshine or this Bloodletting, I am sure bands like Fear Factory or Machine Head (and even RATM) have been also influenced by Overkill and not only by Slayer. Playing at full speed (Thunderhead & Bleed Me), Overkill has also added mid-tempo songs which will have the same effect as the fast one : explode your "poor metal brain". Excellent work by Ellsworth / Verni (vocals & bass), who have wrote again the entire album. The new guitarist Dave Linsk (who has replaced two guitarist, Comeau & Marino, both playing on Necroshine) is really good and their sound has become even more thrashy. Of course the powerful voice of Bobby Ellsworth dominates the songs and the difference between him and Udo (Accept) is almost impossible to detect. The production is really good, providing the album with an 80s old-school thrash feeling. Overkill have added some more modern sound, more 90's oriented. I am happy to see Overkill is still alive and well. With this Bloodletting, the bands celebrates their 15th thrashy CD-assault. Congratulation and ... THUNDERHEAD !!!
