Killing songs: No comment
Poor Michael at the top with UFO, moving to Scorpions for finally
formed his own band, the Michael Schenker Group (MSG), during the best
period from 1980 to 1984. He was in the vault during eight years before coming
back with Robin McAuley with a band called MSG (you should read McAuley
Schenker Group)... and then happened the beginning of the end. At this time,
he went to the United States where he lost his European trademark! The genius
musician endowed of a flying V guitar becomed like any other American guitarist!
Robin McAuley didn't let him the possibility to do something different. Together
they worked on more or less 3 albums. His strong character and pride didn't
let him keep friends in the rock business. Consequences, all the doors remained
closed. Within an advertisement in the local newspaper we could read that a
man was giving guitar lessons at a reduced price... and it was signed by the
master himself!
When I put the CD in the disc player, my heart had a little squeeze. What I
was going to ear? What the hell, it sounded like an American band! The Schenker
touch was here, on some tracks I feel like to recognize the Gary Barden voice
(lead singer on the best album)! Songs are good, not so excellent, it could
be played by any another american band, very common but difficult to feel the
difference. This album is by far, much better than the last albums of McAuley
Schenker Group, and 6 degrees higher than the self producted albums like
Thank you . If you need to lose your money, buy it, otherwise wait for the
next one...
Last advice to Michael: "Hey wake up, man! Don't loose your identity!
You're an European... and do what you do the best... The first time I saw you
it was on the Built To Destroy Tour in 1983-84. First song of the set:
Captain Nemo. Your instrumental really kicked my ass! For few minutes,
I was the Captain Nemo fighting against the octopus! Don't forget that
it's a long way to be back at the top."
Nice try but you can do so much more!.
